At TangoSpanish, our mission is to make learning Spanish an unforgettable cultural adventure. Our vision is to connect you deeply with Argentina, ensuring your passion for the language grows with every step, just like a tango dance.

Beyond the Textbook: Why TangoSpanish is Re Copado!

Before joining TangoSpanish, our students thought learning Spanish meant endless grammar drills. But here, it’s different. Our native Argentine teachers bring the language to life, teaching not just what to say, but how to say it like a local.

For example, a common phrase you’ll learn quickly here is:

  • “Che!” (chee) – “Hey!” or “Dude!” This is an omnipresent Argentine interjection. You’ll hear it constantly in informal conversations. ¡Che, qué bueno que estás leyendo esto! (Hey, how good that you’re reading this!)
  • “¿Todo bien?” (TO-do byen) – “Everything good?” / “How are you?” A very common greeting among friends.

One of the first things that might surprised you is the “sh” sound for the “y” and “ll” – like saying “sho” instead of “yo” (I). It’s a hallmark of Rioplatense Spanish, and while it felt a bit tricky at first, it soon feels natural. Our teachers explain these nuances, making you feel like you’re truly speaking the language of Buenos Aires.

Dancing into Culture: Tango, Mate, and More!

TangoSpanish isn’t just about grammar lessons; it’s a portal to Argentine culture. We learn vocabulary related to experiences, not just abstract concepts.

Tango Insights: You will explor the history of tango, its origins in the working-class barrios of Buenos Aires, and why it’s called “a sad thought that is danced.” Learning phrases for the milonga (tango dance hall) or even just understanding the emotion of a classic tango song is incredibly enriching

🫂 “El abrazo” (el ah-BRAH-so) – “The embrace.” In tango, it’s the fundamental connection between dancers.

💃 “Milonga” (mee-LON-ga) – The place where people go to dance tango socially.

The Ritual of Mate: You teacher will teach you about mate (MAH-teh), the traditional herbal infusion, and how sharing it is a symbol of friendship and hospitality. It’s a social ritual – you share the same mate gourd and bombilla (straw)!

    • ¿Querés unos mates? (keh-RES OO-nos MAH-tes) – “Do you want some mate?” A common invitation to share this special drink.

The Power of Asado: And, of course, the asado (ah-SAH-do), the Argentine barbecue! It’s not just food; it’s a gathering, a celebration, and a central pillar of Argentine social life.

    • ¡Qué rico! (keh REE-ko) – “How delicious!” Perfect to say at an asado.

Fun Facts & Cultural Tidbits you will Learn!
